I am often asked ”what exactly is Reiki?” I’ve found it difficult to fully describe what is it as I feel it’s something you experience.
To help those that are new to Reiki and nor familiar with energy healing here is some information that I hope helps answer the “what is Reiki” question.
The Japanese word, Reiki (pronounced Ray key) means “Universal Life Energy”. Reiki is a spiritual healing modality that can blend well with an individual’s religious or spiritual beliefs. It is one of several complimentary therapies focusing on the whole person; mind, body, and spirit. Reiki works well in conjunction with western medicine. Reiki heals by focusing on the root of disease; it does not cure disease.
It is believed our bodies are made up unseen life force energy; when the energy is low we are more likely to feel stressed or sick and when the energy is high we experience increased happiness and health.
Reiki is performed by placing hands on or hovering hands over a person’s body; as a Reiki Master I have received a Reiki attunement which has given me the ability to use Reiki energy. The Reiki energy flows from my to you and dispersed throughout your body as needed.
That is a basic overview of what Reiki is, so what can you expect during a Reiki session?
We will begin with some questions and a short intake form at your first appointment. You will lay fully clothed(except shoes) on a massage table, blankets will be available to keep you comfortable. I will ask what your intention is for the session. (We will talk more about intentions at your check in). I will provide you the option of light touch or no touch. I start near your feet, then transition to your head and then will down each side of your body. Reiki is not harmful; you may feel heat or changes in body temperature, tingling, other physical sensations or nothing at all. You mind may open to new awareness or insights to something going on in your life. Emotions may surface. You may experience pain relief, reduced stress, increased relaxation and overall improved sense of well-being.
”Trust the process, you do not need to know how it works, only that it does."
